Wilfred Ernie “Bill” Berndt, age 72 years, of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, peacefully passed from this earthly home to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
He was the 7th child born to Willis H. Berndt and Ina C. (Degner) Berndt on February 19, 1946. He lived a simple life in Wonewoc until retiring at which time he fulfilled a dream of his to winter in the warm Florida sunshine.
His parents instilled in him a great work ethic which he carried all thru his life. He tried different jobs, but his love of the farm, especially the milk cows, never left him. He was a true farmer at heart.
He loved gospel and country music, having attended many a concert of his favorites. What truly made his eyes light up was making a discarded lawn mower useful again and turning around to donate the proceeds from his sales and repairs to help “his kids” at St. Jude’s Children Hospital. He also faithfully followed the Green Bay Packers, whether they were winning or losing and also NASCAR.
Bill is survived by his wife, Paula (Weber) Berndt of 48 years. He is further survived by sisters and brothers, Willis Jr (Helen) Berndt, Opal (Don Stittleburg), Sharon (Pat Pesik), Barb (Bob Stull), Michel Berndt, Jim (Marilyn) Berndt, Jane (Dave Moyer); mother-in-law, Donna Weber; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his Parents; a brother, Sydney Berndt; his father-in-law, Clifford Weber and sister-in-law, Gloria Berndt.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Picha Funeral Home – 402 Center St., Wonewoc, with Pastor Robert Maeglin officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Eden Cemetery in Wonewoc. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Wonewoc on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
