Darlene Hoem, age 88, passed away peacefully at Heritage Manor, Elroy, WI on July 22, 2018.
She was born November 25, 1929 to Louis and Marcella (Dietmeyer) Bauer in Antioch, IL.
Darlene married Donald R. Hoem on June 20, 1953 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Antioch. They lived much of their married life in Waukegan, IL, where their four children were born. Darlene was a homemaker, later working in a restaurant when her children were all in school. As those who know her might imagine, she was very popular with her customers.
Darlene cared devotedly for Don at home after he suffered a stroke. When he needed more care, she moved to Elroy to be near family, and Don entered Heritage Manor. Darlene spent a lot of time with him at the nursing home and came to know many of the staff. She was happy to become re-acquainted with them when she was unable to live on her own and moved in to the facility.
Darlene made friends wherever she went and was happy to become part of the coffee group when she came to Elroy.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, her brother, Donald Bauer; and her daughter-in-law, Sue Anne Hoem. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Cindy (Randy) Mueller, Jim and Tom; Don Hoem, Kevin and Mitch; Nancy (Rich) Garza and Christopher; Mary (Randy) Lewins, Adam, Traci and Jean. She is further survived by her sister Betty Quilty, niece Bridget (Steve) Olson; and nephew Patrick (Michelle) Quilty and their children; brother-in-law Bob Hoem, niece Patti Mullin; and numerous cousins and friends.
The family is very appreciative of the care Darlene received at Heritage Manor.
Funeral services and interment will be at a later date at St. Peter Catholic Church in Antioch, IL. Picha Funeral Home in Elroy is assisting the family.
