John G. Wanless, age 92 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Gundersen St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.
He was born on March 30, 1927 to Bearl and Ruth (Chitwood) Wanless in Richland County, Wisconsin. He grew to adulthood in the Blue River area and graduated from Blue River High School and later from UW Platteville with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. John also served in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1953 in the Korean War.
John was a school teacher for a short time in Wauzeka and Hollandale and for many years in the Hillsboro School District teaching Math and Driver’s Education.
John was united in marriage to Nancy Resac on August 2, 1974 in Richland Center.
He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, spending time with his grandchildren, playing euchre, playing and coaching softball, coon and rabbit hunting and raising and selling hunting dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Hillsboro; daughter, Beth (Ashley) Thayer of Hillsboro; son, Ethan (Alex) Wanless of Eagan, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Leah, Evan and Nico.
He was preceded in death by his Parents and brothers and sisters, Gerald, Gordon, Gale, Eathel, Evelyn and Elaine.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Interment will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro.
