Allen B. Brady, age 70 years, of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at his home in Wonewoc.
He was born on February 28, 1947 to William T. and Shirley (Allen) Brady in Mauston, Wisconsin. Allen grew to adulthood in Wonewoc and graduated from the Wonewoc High School in 1965. In 1969 he received his commission from the Army ROTC Program, as well as a Bachelors’ Degree in Political Science, both from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He later achieved an MBA, working initially in employee bargaining and as a lobbyist. He also pursued different careers in Village Administration, Water Filtration Research and Development, and finished his working life with 15 years in the United States Postal Service.
Allen served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971, receiving the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and other Service Commendation medals. Allen continued his military service by joining the Army Reserve, and following his promotion to Captain, he assumed command of the 826th Ordnance Company for two consecutive years out of Truax Field in Madison. Allen was an active member of the American Legion – Clark- Gurgel Post, Wonewoc, and a former member of the VFW in Madison, WI.
He was married to (Lou Brady) Anita Jaech of Wonewoc, from 1972-1992.
Allen enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and the northern lakes of Minnesota and Wisconsin beginning in 1972. Many of his fondest trips included his son Andrew and friends. Allen was also a history buff and an avid reader, which parlayed into some wonderful and memorable road trips with his son Joe to places such as Boston, Chicago, New York, Georgia and California. A true highlight in Allen’s life was a trip to Ireland he was able to share with both sons in 2009.
Allen was well known for his storytelling and jokes. There isn’t a friend or family member who will likely forget one of these stories they heard at least once. It was one of his many talents. Allen had many friends, and was a friend to many.
Survivors include two sons, Andrew (Rachel) Brady of Austin, Texas and Joseph (Amy Bassett) Brady of Los Angeles, California; significant other, Ginger Stromberg of Wonewoc; sister, Pamela (Ethan) Hack of Newcastle upon Tyne, England; sister-in-law, Kim Brady, who lives abroad; a nephew, Jim Brady and 2 nieces, Linn Weissman and Mary Brady, as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents and brother, John W. Brady.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Picha Funeral Home, 402 Center Street, Wonewoc, with military rites performed. Visitation will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. immediately prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the Memorial service, hosted at the American Legion, Clark-Gurgel Post in Wonewoc.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family for future
designation. The Picha Funeral Home in
Wonewoc is assisting the family.
