Lydia
C. Benish, age 88 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 at
the St. Josephs Memorial Hospital in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.
She was born on April 4, 1921 to Elmer and
Lulu (Lamb) Wood in Vernon County and grew to adulthood at LaFarge, where she
graduated from the LaFarge High School. Lydia was united in marriage to Albin
Benish on April 19, 1944 at St. Johns Catholic Church at Dilly. They lived in
the Hillsboro area all of their lives. They farmed and she also worked at the
Hillsboro Hospital, later they owned and operated Al and Lydias Bar in
Hillsboro, later known as Toms Place. Lydia was also active in the St. Johns
and St. Aloysius Catholic Churches and the Ladies Altar Society. Albin preceded
her in death on November 14, 1988.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Ray)
Enslen of Oconomowoc, Tom (Jude) Benish of Middleton, Steve (Alesa) Benish of
Hillsboro and Daniel (Deborah) Benish of Hillsboro; ten grandchildren, Debbie,
Brenda, Jill, Kris, Megan, Josh, Jessica, Jennifer, Daniel, and Lydia; six Great
Grandchildren; sisters, Orpha Hughes of Westby and Ervilla Mike Kyser of
Viroqua; sister-in-law, Beverly Wood of Illinois; and special friends, Donna
Hora and Lori Cherf. In addition to her husband, Albin, she was preceded in
death by her Parents, four Brothers and one Sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 4,
2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro, with Father
Joseph Nakwah officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in
Hillsboro. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Sunday
from 3 to 6 p.m.
