John D. “Jack” or “Jackie” Shields, 79, of Reedsburg, WI, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Agrace HospiceCare, Madison, WI, with his loving family by his side. Cremation has been accorded.
Jack was born July 1, 1939, to John and Frieda Marie (Underhill) Shields. Jack graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1957, and after graduation he helped with the family farm in his younger years. He later moved to Iowa and worked on the Tractor Cab Assembly Line for J.I. Case in Bettendorf and Burlington, IA, until he retired and moved back to Wisconsin in 1993.
Jack is lovingly remembered by his three children: Debra (Steven) Breitbach, Davenport, IA, John M. Shields, Durant, IA, and Christine (Daniel) France, Davenport, IA. He will also be remembered by his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jack’s partner of over 25 years that he found later in life: Elizabeth “Midge” Wilke, never left his side during his many hospital stays. He will be fondly remembered by Midge’s family: Christopher (Susan) Holby, Nicholas Holby, Melissa (Patrick) Carrigan, and six grandchildren.
Jack will also be forever remembered by his family and dear friends: Jack is survived by his sister, Larita “Rita” Hatfield, Maquoketa, IA. He had several nieces and nephews but had a special bond with his niece Marita (William) Shaker, Elroy, WI. He also had a special bond with his nephew Steven (Mary Jo) Onsager, Hillsboro, WI. His close friends Marvin and Cindy Heister, Maquoketa, IA. Special thanks to friends, Dick and Sue Greenwood, Reedsburg, WI, for the countless hours of taking care of Dottie and KiKi. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Mary Onsager, Lucille Long.
Jack is remembered for his kindness, generosity, and especially his sense of humor. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
