Leon J. Subera, age 91 years, of Yuba, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at his home.
He was born on November 18, 1928 to Joseph and Jennie (Stanek) Subera and grew up in the Town of Union, Vernon County, farming with horses alongside his dad and brothers. He attended grade school at the Pine River School and graduated from the Hillsboro High School in 1946.
He met the love of his life in 1950 at a Christmas dance in Yuba. Leon was united in marriage to Wilma Janecek on June 23, 1954 in Hillsboro.
Leon farmed his entire life in the Yuba area. For several years, he hauled milk. Both Dennis and Carol enjoyed going on the milk runs.
He loved listening to polkas and waltzes and in later years he enjoyed watching Molly B on Wednesday and Saturday nights.
Leon also enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling and going to Masopust and other dances in Yuba. He was a director for the Henrietta, Greenwood and Union Mutual Insurance Co. for several years. He loved farming, animals and his country life. He was a good neighbor and friend.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 66 years, Wilma; son, Dennis (Vicky) Subera of La Crosse; daughter, Carol (Arnold) Mays of Oregon, WI; grandchildren, Luke and Jessica Subera and A.J. and Danielle Mays; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Subera, Marvene Subera, Gladys Janecek and Anne Burns; brother-in-law, Kenny Herrling and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; brothers, Sylvester (Mary) Subera, Paul Subera and Richard Subera; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Janecek and Donald Janecek and sister-in-law, Lorraine Herrling.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, followed by a public invitation to a graveside service at the Czech’s National Cemetery on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at approximately 12:00 noon.
