Darlene Catherine (Havlik) Preuss, age 82 years, of Hillsboro, Wisconsin, died at home on Saturday, May 9, 2020 surrounded by her loving children.
Darlene was born on March 22, 1938 to Peter and Julia (Kouba) Havlik on the family farm near Cazenovia, Wisconsin. She was the sixth of eight children and loved all her brothers and sisters very much. In the 1940's the family moved to the Harrison farm for more space. Darlene always loved this home. She still liked to drive past the farm and remember happy times.
Darlene graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1957 and worked at Ray-O-Vac. She married Wayne Preuss on June 7, 1958 in Wonewoc. Together they had four children and farmed for many years. Darlene worked at Mecca Sports in Tomah for 20 years, retiring in 2001.
Among the things that Darlene enjoyed were, shopping for bargains at St. Vinnie's, anything country, watching westerns, baseball and football, gardening, fishing, dancing, playing cards and spending time with family. She especially loved the Havlik Reunions and having cookouts at her house.
Darlene loved and was very proud of her two grandsons, Michael and Zachary Mertes and enjoyed watching them play basketball and soccer. They were the light of her life.
Darlene is further survived by her sons David, Jon and Jim of Mauston and daughter Kim (Jeff) Mertes and their sons, Michael and Zachary of Sparta; her brother, Marvin (Lois) Havlik of Mauston and sister, MaryAnn Annen of Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her Parents; her former husband, Wayne; her brothers, Bernard, Clarence and James and sisters, Irene Chadwick and Patricia Campbell.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro, with Father Don Bauer officiating.
The public is invited to the interment in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro on Friday, May 15, 2020 at approximately 12:00 noon.
